Court grants suspended possession order
A tenant convicted of trying to grow cannabis at her council owned property received a suspended possession order at Sheffield County Court on 5 January. Lyndsey Randall of Beck Road, S5, has been ordered to comply with the conditions of her tenancy agreement or risk losing her home.
Sheffield Homes received information that Ms Randall had been arrested for growing cannabis in her home. Contact with the police revealed that Lyndsey Randall had been convicted in Sheffield Magistrates Court for permitting production or attempted production of a controlled drug on her premises at Beck Road. This breaches her tenancy conditions (see notes to editors).
Liz Bashforth, Deputy Director of Legal and Administrative Services at the Council, said: “We have a duty to manage the housing stock for the benefit of everyone. We cannot allow tenants to disregard their tenancy conditions. The fact that this criminal activity has been conducted inside, and in the locality of her home, has a detrimental effect on the estate in which she lives and thereby impacts on the other residents living in the area.”

Notes to editors: The specific tenancy condition states:
You, your household and guests must respect the rights of other people and not do anything (either in or near the property or on the estate where the property is) which is illegal, immoral or would cause danger, a nuisance or annoyance, including harassment of other people.
