Can I become an Area Board Member?

Area Boards are made up from three constituencies:

Independents (4)
Council Appointees (2)

Each year there are one or two vacancies for Tenant and for Independent Area Board Members at a point in the year when a certain number of Area Board Members have to retire. This will next occur in 2008 , when it is expected that the vacancies to replace those retiring will be advertised in January.  Adverts for the vacancies are placed in the local press, on the website and in local area offices.

Additionally, there may at any time be a casual vacancy if an Area Board Member chooses to retire before the end of their term on the Board.

Any such vacancy is filled providing that it occurs at least six months before the date on which Area Board Members are due to retire.

If you are interested in any vacancies that may occur on an Area Board, please contact the Sheffield Homes Governance Team for further details by email at enquiries@sheffieldhomes.org.uk

Council appointees are appointed annually by Sheffield City Council.
