Gleadless is Blooming Marvellous when it comes to Gardening!
Residents in Gleadless, will find out this week if their 'green fingered know how' has helped them scoop one of the prizes in this year's Gleadless Garden Competition.
Sheffield Homes and Gleadless Valley Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) organised the Competition to showcase some of the estates finest gardens.
Lisa Lobue, Community Engagement Officer, Sheffield Homes says “The competition, now in its 4th year is still going strong. Not only is it a great way to encourage tenants and residents to be proud of their surrounding area and improve community spirit, it is also an opportunity to meet people on the estate.”
There are two categories, best garden and best container garden, with a first prize of £50, second prize of £25 and third prize of £10 for each category.
Terry Wright, one of the main judges for the competition says he is delighted to see just how much time and effort people had put into helping brighten up the Gleadless Valley.
“It is so difficult to decide who comes first, second and third, when there are so many fantastic gardens to choose from. It’s great to see people taking pride in their gardens which helps to improve the estate. Even though the weather has not been kind the standard has still been great this year,” he said.
Terry Wright, Chair of Gleadless Valley TARA, Dennis White, Committee Member, Gleadless Valley TARA, Leonora Stavrianakos and Zoe Coates Sheffield Homes, judged the awards.
