Bus Tour Highlights Environmental Achievements in the North of the City
Sheffield Homes organised a bus tour for members of the local Tenants’ and Residents’ Associations (TARA’s) in the north of the city. The tour gave staff the chance to show the TARA reps, along with Area Board members, the range of environmental works that have been carried out across the whole of the north area over the last year.
The itinerary for the day was -
· Looking at some of the 100 new trees that have been planted over the last 12 months in the North area as part of a strategic tree renewal programme.
· A demonstration of graffiti removal, by Sheffield Homes Estates Team, using the recently purchased high pressure jet wash.
· A visit to an area near Newgate Close Sheltered Scheme, where investment to an open space had resulted in seating areas being added with trees planted and wild flower gardens created.
· Work carried out to Shirecliffe Square to transform the area in to a community garden. This work included tree planting, wild flower gardens and an infant wooded area.
One TARA rep said, “This bus tour has given me a better overview of just what the North Estates team are achieving, and what their future plans are. It’s been a very positive day”
Sheffield Homes’ North Area Housing Co-ordinator Dean Fearon added, “This tour is important to us, as is the continuous involvement of the local community in making decisions that benefit the area they live in. We’ve received a very positive response from the TARA representatives.”
Through carrying out area walkabouts last year over a 1000 environmental improvements were made in the area. These varied from small jobs such as litter picking, to larger projects such as creating wild flower gardens, or carrying out defensive planting on Emerson Crescent at Parson Cross.
