Children from Batemoor plant for the future
Children from Batemoor did their bit to help keep the area green for future generations, by taking part in tree planting organised by Sheffield Homes. The pupils who were all from Lower Meadow Primary School, Batemoor took the opportunity to get outside, get their hands dirty and learn about how to care for the trees and their local environment.
A mixture of Tulip, Rowan and Silver Birch trees were planted on the green space area next to Lower Meadow Primary school with the help of Sheffield Homes wardens and local volunteers.
Les Benn, Area Manager, Sheffield Homes says: "Planting trees is a great way for young people to get involved with their local community and learn how to care for their surroundings. The children get to plant something which will grow with them throughout their lives and the trees can be enjoyed by residents for years to come."
Jez Platts, Sheffield City Council Community Forester comments: “We really enjoy working closely with local schools. It gives us the opportunity to educate children about the importance of looking after trees, the benefits they have on the environment and is also great fun.”
The tree planting is part of an ongoing partnership between Sheffield Homes and Sheffield City Council’s Trees & Woodland’s department as part of a tree renewal programme. It is being delivered through community forestry projects to target those areas where tree planting will bring about enhancement of the surroundings and benefits to the environment.
