Great Christmas in Store for Flood Hit Tenant
Winn Gardens tenant Tracy Sanders is looking forward to a great Christmas now that her home is fully restored following the devastating summer floods.
Her council home was one of the worst hit when floods ravaged the Winn Gardens estate in June and extensive repair works were needed. Over 80 Council homes and many privately owned properties on the estate were hit by flooding.
Sheffield Homes, the management company which oversees 43,000 homes on behalf of Sheffield City Council, and its repairs contractor Kier have been working hard to try to get as many properties as possible completely repaired.
The floors and walls of the flood damaged properties were left very damp when waters receded and Kier Sheffield has been using dehumidifiers and specialist equipment to try to speed up the drying out time of properties so that work can begin. Repair work has now begun on the majority of properties with several now nearing completion.
Sheffield Homes have provided an offer of temporary rehousing for flood hit council tenants and some families, including Tracy’s, moved away from the estate whilst repair work took place. Kier have provided support staff on the estate 7 days a week and has also provided extra equipment such as cookers and heaters.
Kier are hoping to get as many properties as possible completed in time for Christmas. Sheffield Homes and Kier will ensure that tenants whose homes are not complete or are not yet dry enough for work to start are supported throughout the festive period to make sure they have the essential items they need.
