Homes Staff Go Walkabout

Sheffield residents are being asked to put their best foot forward to join Sheffield’s estate walkabouts and improve the look of their neighbourhood.

The walkabouts, which are run by Sheffield Homes, are designed to give local people a say about their estates.  The events offer participants the opportunity to meet estate professionals and discuss ideas and proposals for environmental and estate projects to help improve the area.

Geoff Lupton, Lead Estate Officer at Sheffield Homes explained, “Walkabouts give local people the chance to take action.  We work together to look at existing schemes and how these are benefiting the community, review the standards of grounds maintenance and cleaning in the area, or even help plan new initiatives for the future.  Special extended walkabouts also take place and include a tour around other communities in Sheffield to give people an idea of other projects taking place in the city.”

The activities also give local people the chance to talk to other agencies including Sheffield City Council, Street Force, Decent Homes partners, cleaning contractors and local Tenants and Residents Associations (TARAs).

Walkabouts take place across the city on a regular basis.  Their success is determined by local residents taking part.  To find out more about joining your local walkabout telephone Sheffield Homes 293 0000 or 205 3333, drop in to your local area housing office or visit www.sheffieldhomes.org.uk and click on Events Calendar.
