Jurassic Park Hits Philadelphia Green Space

Something prehistoric is happening in the Park! Dinosaur footprints have been spotted at Upperthorpe but there wasn’t a Tyrannosaurus Rex in sight!

The materials for the footprints were provided courtesy of Sheffield Homes and their Estate Officers did a great job of setting them in concrete for the Art in The Park Footprint Celebration which took place on Saturday 15 March at the Philadelphia Green Space.

The Philedelphia Green Space, which is a wooded area where the former Kelvin Flats used to be is now home to the giant footprints which were made out of clay by local artists and volunteers. These were then glazed & fired in a kiln & the footprints have been set into concrete & decorated with mosaic tiles. Children also got the chance to make clay dinosaurs.

Also joining in with the celebrations was Bronze medal winning runner Sam Ellis.

Sheffield Homes North West Area Manager Surjan Tiwana said: “We see this as a good way of getting young people interested and taking part in the local community. The Art in The Park Footprint Celebration was a great success and we are really pleased that the dinosaur footprints were such a hit with the local children. We work closely with Art in the Park on many events such as this one and there will be many more planned throughout the summer in Upperthorpe’s green spaces for all the community to get involved in and have some fun as well as brighten up the area.”
