Police told to "Get On Yer Bike"

Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s) working in Arbourthorne took the saying “get on yer bike” literally this week after they were given two new bicycles from people in the local community.

The new bicycles are thanks to a generous donation from Arbourthorne Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) and the Area Board who donated £2500 each. The bikes will enable the PCSOs to cover even more of the community to provide valuable support to residents.

Acting Sergeant Nathan Hoole from the South Safer Neighbourhood Team said:
“We are very pleased and thankful to the local organisations who have helped to fund these new bikes. Cycle Officers have a significant impact on crime within our communities and these bikes are proving to be an essential tool to policing our local neighbourhoods. With the use of the bikes Officers are able to reach areas that other vehicles cannot and cover a
greater area, whilst being visible and more accessible to members of the community.”

Members of the community were on hand to officially handover the equipment to PCSO’s at a special event held at Duchess Road Community Centre, which has also recently benefited from new security shutters paid for by a grant secured by Shoreham Street TARA from the Area Board.

Simon Young, Area Manager at Sheffield Homes said “We are proud to be supporting a wide range of community-based projects to help make our neighbourhoods welcoming and safe for local people.  Local TARAs, staff from Sheffield Homes and the Area Board work closely together to identify community projects that can make a big difference to the lives of people in Sheffield.”
