Tree Planting Renewal Scheme In Wincobank is a Knockout!

Brendan Ingle, along with youngsters from his local gym, exchanged boxing gloves for gardening gloves when they helped plant trees at Fife Gardens, Wincobank on Thursday 14 February along with staff members from Sheffield Futures Partnership.

This is part of an ongoing partnership between Sheffield Homes and Sheffield City Council’s Trees & Woodland’s department over a strategic tree renewal programme. It is being delivered through community forestry projects to target those areas where further tree planting will bring about positive enhancement of people’s surroundings and benefits to both the immediate and wider environment.

Sheffield Homes' East Area Manager Brigitt Cowen says: “We really appreciate Brendan  and the boys taking the time out to come and help with our tree planting renewal scheme in Wincobank.  For it to succeed it’s important that local people, community groups and schools all get involved with the scheme right through from planning to implementation and also tending the trees afterwards.”

Jez Platts, Sheffield City Council Community Forester, says: “Community forestry is all about involving everybody in contributing to the regeneration of Sheffield's all important urban forest in order for current and future generations to enjoy.”
