Sheffield Homes appoints Chief Executive

Peter Morton has been appointed Chief Executive of Sheffield Homes.

Sheffield Homes Ltd is the UK’s largest ALMO (Arm’s Length Management Organisation), managing homes for 54,000 tenants and overseeing an investment programme of up to
£1 billion.

Set up and owned by Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Homes’ mission is to provide excellent homes and services, in order to create clean, attractive neighbourhoods. It provides housing management services and manages repairs and improvements to tenants’ homes throughout the city.

Sheffield Homes will also be responsible for delivering the multimillion-pound investment programme to bring homes up to the Government’s Decent Homes Standard.

Professor Tony Crook, Chair of Sheffield Homes, said when announcing the appointment: “We were looking for someone with true leadership qualities to take this exciting organisation forward and make a real difference to the lives of thousands of people in Sheffield. The post was publicly advertised and we used professional ‘head hunters’ to search for the strongest candidates and help us assess them. Peter Morton, who has been acting Chief Executive, was selected from a very strong field.

“Peter has led the organisation from its launch earlier this year through to the recent award of the top, 3 star rating from the Audit Commission. I am confident that he will continue to lead the organisation with flair and professionalism and ensure we continue to be one of the best housing organisations in the UK.”

Bob Kerslake, Chief Executive for Sheffield City Council, said:
“I am delighted at Peter’s appointment and look forward to working with him to deliver the major investment programme and further improve services to tenants."

Sheffield Homes is run by a Board of Directors made up of seven tenants, five independents and three council nominees giving tenants in Sheffield more say than ever about the housing issues affecting them.
