Exhibition trailer hits the road

Work is now underway on the multi-million pound housing investment programme in Sheffield.  An exhibition trailer has been fitted out to tour the city, giving tenants a flavour of what they can expect when their property is improved as part of the Decent Homes programme (see notes to editors). The trailer hits the road this week, visiting Wordsworth Avenue on Monday (24 January).

The trailer contains a kitchen, bathroom, wall tiles and floor coverings so that tenants can see for themselves the options available for improvements. They can choose the colour of cupboards, worktops, external doors, paint and tiles.

The trailer will be out and about in Parson Cross over the next two weeks at:

  • Wordsworth Avenue, near to Chaucer School, on Monday 24 January (9am - 4.30pm) and Wednesday 26 January (11 - 7pm)
  • The Green, Halliwell Crescent, on Monday 31 January (9am - 4.30pm), Tuesday 1 February (9am - 4.30pm) and Wednesday 2 February (11 - 7pm)

Keepmoat and Mears, the two contractors working in the area, will be present at the consultation events (see notes to editors).

Paul Webb, Area Housing Manager, Sheffield Homes, said: “A huge amount of work has already gone into planning the investment programme and there is a lot more to be done.  Each property has to be surveyed to identify exactly what work needs to be done.  Project groups, made up of tenants, local board members, and contractors, are being set up on each estate to discuss the details of the improvement work. The groups will also monitor the performance of contractors carrying out the work.”

Notes to editors:
Sheffield has the largest Decent Homes housing investment programme in the country.  Five contractors, Connaught Property Services Ltd, Keepmoat plc, Kier Sheffield LLP, Lovell Partnerships Ltd and Mears Group plc, are working together on the £1billion programme. They use Delcam’s Enterprise Project Management solution to manage the investment programme. The Decent Homes programme will not only improve 54,000 council owned properties across the city but through clauses written into the contracts will provide local jobs and skills training. Sheffield Homes is managing the contractors on behalf of Sheffield City Council.
