Kier tackles town centre security
Building contractor Kier Sheffield has shown it's not just interested in helping to provide Decent Homes - a decent environment is part of the package too.
Kier Sheffield is one of the key partners in Sheffield Homes' city-wide multi-million pound Decent Homes programme, which will bring all Sheffield Council housing up to the Government's set standard in the next five years.
The company has been working on the massive refurbishment project in Woodhouse and was taken by a plea for help from Woodhouse Community Forum in its bid to raise £12,500 for CCTV in the market square. Concerns over town centre security had grown following a number of incidents, including a break-in at a funeral parlour.
Kier stepped in to boost their coffers with an immediate £500 donation.
"When you are working long-term in an area, you get to know the residents and feel part of the community," said David Sheridan, managing director of Kier Sheffield.
"We've been delivering the Decent Homes refurbishment programme in Woodhouse since April 2005 and, I'm pleased to say, have received extremely positive feedback from the local community. A key priority for us has been the safety of residents and so we are delighted to make this contribution to ensure the long-term safety of everyone in Woodhouse.'
Around 300 properties were finished by Christmas and another 900 are earmarked for the Decent Homes treatment in the coming year.
