More ASBO Success

Sheffield City Council has been granted an Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO) by Sheffield Magistrates court against Glenn Savage, aged 29. Mr Savage is currently serving a custodial sentence at HMP Doncaster but is due to be released later this year.

Mr Savage has a history of causing harassment, alarm and distress in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield, which has particularly affected residents on the Skelton estate. He has previously caused damage to property, threatened violence and been abusive on a number of occasions, usually under the influence of alcohol.

District Judge Sheila Driver imposed the order that prohibits Mr Savage from:

  1. Engaging in any conduct, which is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to others or encouraging others to do so.
  2. Carrying or possessing any object or article as a weapon or for use in any
  3. conduct which would cause harassment, alarm or distress to others.
  4. Use of verbal abuse or physical abuse, swearing, throwing any object at or towards any person or property.
  5. Engaging in conduct, which is likely to cause others to fear for their safety or for the safety of their property or encouraging others to do so.
  6. Interfering unlawfully with any property belonging to another.
  7. Entering certain areas of the Woodhouse estate (demonstrated on a map presented to Mr Savage)
  8. Approaching witnesses from the legal proceedings or being abusive, insulting or threatening towards or encouraging others to do so.
  9. Associating in any public place with Dean Adlington or Anita Pike.
  10. Consumption of alcohol in a public place unless on licensed premises and in accordance with the licence or behaving in a drunk and disorderly manner in any public place.

The ASBO will last for three years. If Mr Savage is found guilty of breaching the order he could face imprisonment for up to five years.

Welcoming the judgement, Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Advisor for Community Safety said "The Council will not tolerate anti social behaviour, and will not allow the minority of troublemakers to bring fear and disruption to local communities. I am pleased the court has supported our action and I hope Mr Savage will abide by the terms of his ASBO".
