Bands & Blooms Event Receives Lottery Money
Plans to make Sheffield’s community gala ‘Bands & Blooms 2007’ bigger and better than ever has got off to a flying start thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Big Lottery Fund.
The event, which aims to bring communities in the North of Sheffield closer together, was a huge success last year with over 3,000 people visiting in just one day. Now thanks to the £5,000 grant from ‘Awards for All’ a Lottery grant for local groups, this years’ event will be extended to be a two-day spectacular.
The event is organised by local residents through Tenants and Residents Associations (TARA’s) from Angram Bank, Mortomley and Lane End, and the Area North Sheffield Alliance. Sheffield Homes are also providing support and advice for the event.
This years activities will take place on July 6th and 7th at Angram Bank recreation ground. Over the two days, local residents will be treated to a host of shows and attractions including fairground and children’s rides, performances from local brass and rock bands, sporting groups, flower and art displays, community workshops plus much more.
Robert Bratherton, Chairman of the Bands & Blooms Organising Committee and Angram Bank TARA said, “With this grant we can turn a great event into an amazing event. We still have a long way to go with a lot of planning to do but we can guarantee a real community event that everyone can enjoy. Children from local primary schools are even taking part in a competition to design this years event flyer.”
