Sheffield Homes Customers Show Off Home Improvements to Local MP
Sheltered housing customers in Heeley will be proudly showing off their transformed flats to Meg Munn MP and Cllr. Rosemary Telfer on Friday. They are amongst almost 11,000 tenants who have already benefited from the Decent Homes programme of improvements to council properties, which are being carried out by Sheffield Homes.
At Cambridge Court, 36 flats have received a makeover, including new kitchens, bathrooms and double-glazing. For the first time, the tenants of ten studio flats now have their own bathrooms, meaning they don’t have to share communal facilities. Four studios have been made into two two-bedroom flats, to meet the demand for some larger retirement properties. Customers had the opportunity to select their fittings, which include features especially designed for convenience for older people. Some also had the option of respite accommodation whilst the work was carried out.
Not one complaint was received during the work. Comments from happy customers included:
Mrs Ball: “The first time I saw my flat I was speechless. It is lovely. I got on very well with the Kier workforce, both young and old. Nothing was too much trouble for them.”
Mrs Czerwinski: “I would like to say how much I appreciate the work Sheffield Homes and Kier have done on my flat. They’ve done a wonderful job.”
Mrs Booth: “I’ve had my flat transformed into a lovely new one. It’s so modern and light. I have a beautiful kitchen, an easy-to-work shower and an easy-to-clean floor.”
Mrs Ross: “I think it’s marvellous. I’m very happy with my new kitchen and bathroom, and especially with the new windows that keep my flat warm.
Mrs Oxspring: “I was not looking forward to moving into the temporary flat whilst the work was carried out, but the support and assistance I received was excellent. It all happened with little disruption. The work was professional and the workmen were kind and efficient. I cannot praise them enough.”
Kier Sheffield Managing Director Dave Sheridan said: "We are committed to offering a first class customer service to all our tenants and are delighted that satisfaction has been consistently high at Cambridge Court. The residents in sheltered accommodation need extra care and attention and so the final outcome is a credit to the whole team."
