Sheffield Homes generates interest in Child Trust Fund accounts

Babies and parents at Hillsborough First Point
Parents who get their baby weighed at Hillsborough First Point next Tuesday (16th January) could be adding up the pounds in an altogether different way!

Sheffield Homes – which runs the First Point on behalf of Sheffield City Council – is promoting National Child Trust Fund Week to parents who may not be aware of the scheme.

Every child living in the UK for whom Child Benefit is being received and was born on or after 1 September 2002 is entitled to a Child Trust Fund account, which is kick-started with a £250 voucher from the Government.

The scheme aims to give children a head start as a young adult and help them understand personal finance and the importance of saving for their future.

The Government has launched its first ever Child Trust Fund Week (15-20 January) so parents can find out more and really make the most of their child’s account.

The Sheffield Homes promotion coincides with the weekly well baby clinic that the First Point hosts every Tuesday afternoon, which is run by a team of health visitors offering advice and information to local parents.

“This seemed an ideal opportunity to promote the Child Trust Fund to local parents who may not be familiar with it,” said Kev Hewitt, Housing Co-ordinator with Sheffield Homes.

“The baby clinic is extremely popular, often seeing up to 40 babies in one afternoon. Next Tuesday our staff will be handing out information that will hopefully tell our customers all they need to know about the Child Trust Fund scheme.”

The well baby clinic opened in March 2006 in partnership with the Sheffield West NHS Primary Care Trust and runs every Tuesday from 1.30-3.30pm.
