Local residents help create community gardens

A plot of unused land at Holberry Gardens has been given a new lease of life and is being converted into an impressive community garden thanks to local residents and Sheffield Homes.

Working from designs provided by local artist Collette Cameron, Sheffield Homes, the local Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) and volunteers from the Broomhall Forum, began work to transform the land into an attractive focal point for the whole community.

Geoff Lupton, Lead Estate Officer at Sheffield Homes explained, “The aim of the project was to help bring the community closer together by getting people interested in regeneration.  Local residents were really keen to be more involved in the project and decided to take a hands on approach to give something back to the community.”

“People in the area were really enthusiastic about getting involved in the work.  We’ve all found the project really rewarding and good fun.  The end result is fantastic”, added local resident and volunteer Polly Backer.

This project is one of several taking place across Sheffield as part of Sheffield Homes’ campaign for cleaner, greener and safer neighbourhoods.
