Sheffield Homes hits the big screen

Janet Bagshaw of Binsted & Cookson TARA features in the Talk 2 Sheffield Homes campaign
Customers from Sheffield Homes are hitting the big screen in an effort to encourage more people to get involved with the local housing service.

They have teamed up with staff, Tenants and Residents Associations and a television company to produce a short film that will be shown on a giant plasma screen in Sheffield City centre from 28th August – 2nd September.

The message of the Talk 2 Sheffield Homes campaign is that everyone can make a difference to their home and community by getting involved and having their say.

Customers are already heavily involved in the running of Sheffield Homes, the company that manages 48,000 council homes in the city. Hundreds of dedicated volunteers help transform communities and services, through projects ranging from building new parks, inspecting repairs or going undercover as mystery shoppers. Tenants also have the largest number of seats on the Company’s Board of Directors.

The film shows that there are lots of different, enjoyable and very rewarding ways for people of all ages to make changes to their homes and streets. It is being shown outside Orchard Square as part of LBV TV’s Community Roadshow, featuring several films from local organisations. Spectators will be invited to sign up for the Talk 2 Sheffield Homes database, to find out more about opportunities in their area, and enter a free prize draw.

The event will also publicise Sheffield Homes annual residents conference, taking place on Wednesday 6th September at Sheffield Wednesday football ground. This year’s theme is Safer Neighbourhoods, Safer Sheffield, and customers are invited to come along to find out what Sheffield Homes and the Police are doing to improve community safety.

Janet Parry, Director of Housing Management at Sheffield Homes, said, “Customers are at the very heart of our business, and many of the improvements that we have made to housing and estate services have been as a direct result of customers working with us. We are trying to raise awareness of the opportunities for everyone to have their say and we hope people will feel inspired by the achievements of those on the film.”

Anyone wishing to get more involved in the work of Sheffield Homes, or book a place at the annual residents conference, should contact the Tenant Participation Team on 0114 2735566 or email getinvolved@sheffieldhomes.org.uk.
