Volunteers Needed to set up Mosborough TARA
Do you live in or around Mosborough? Would you like to be able to have the chance to work closely with Sheffield Homes towards the provision of an effective and improving housing service? If so we are looking for volunteers to form a Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TARA) in Mosborough.
Sheffield Homes are holding a series of coffee mornings at the Mosborough Methodist Church on Chapel Street, between 10am and 12 noon on the 13th August and 27th August and the 24th September. Residents are invited to come along and find out for themselves just what being a TARA rep entails.
There are a lot of reasons for tenants / residents to join together to form an association. Here are just a few of the main ones:
- To organise around issues such as, regeneration of neighbourhoods, repairs, housing services, problems with neighbours
- To have a representative voice. To enable tenants to communicate with their landlord to influence decision making that affects your and your neighbours’ homes.
- To give accurate advice and information to tenants / residents
- To increase the sense of belonging to a community
- To campaign on certain issues e.g. for better play facilities; for better housing conditions
Sheffield Homes South East Area Manager Shaun Nolan, said, "This is a very exciting time and we are really looking forward to working with local people in forming a TARA in Mosborough and making a real difference to the community. The coffee mornings are an excellent opportunity to attract a wide range of people who are keen to improve the area. We hope that by forming a TARA the residents will have a proper way of expressing their views to us."
Sheffield currently has 76 Tenants and Residents Associations covering the majority of the city. To find out more about how to set up a TARA (South Area) 0114 205 3333 or (North area) 0114 293 0000
