Court order granted against nuisance family
Sheffield County Court granted the Council a possession order on Monday 18 April against a family that has caused misery to a number of families in the vicinity of Maun Way, Sheffield. The case was brought following work by Sheffield Homes’ central Anti-Social Behaviour Team and staff at the Verdant Way Housing Office.
Samantha Parker aged 37, of Maun Way, and members of her family were involved in various acts of anti-social behaviour including demanding money and other items such as cigarettes from neighbours, assaulting neighbours and shouting abuse and threats to harm others. A member of her family was found to have driven round the estate at fast speed in a motor car, smoked cannabis, covered a neighbour's house in graffiti with spray paint and then lit the can and pushed it through the letterbox. The occupants of the house had to be re-housed for their own safety. Miss Parker has also been convicted of possession of heroin at the property on an number of occasions.
His Honour Judge Moore stated that he had no alternative but to award possession of the property to the Council due to the fact that the incidents bordered on criminality rather than just anti-social behaviour. He said the Council was right to seek possession in order to protect other residents from the behaviour displayed by the Parker family. He ordered that the possession order could be enforced by Bailiff's Warrant after 12 noon on Tuesday 3 May 2005.
Mick Crowder, Manager of the Safer Estates Unit at Sheffield Homes, said: "We have to put a stop to behaviour like this and protect the majority of law-abiding tenants in our properties. We will not hesitate to act against tenants who make others' lives a misery."
