Turn up the heat on burglars this summer - 26 April 2007

Sheffield Homes and South Yorkshire Police have joined forces to warn people of the risk of sneak-in thefts, a crime that increases over the summer.
 
As part of a publicity campaign, they are promoting handy tips and advice to council tenants and home owners alike.

Second Sheffield Residents Receives Award from Home Office - 24 April 2007

A second Sheffield resident has been recognised by the Home Office for taking a stand against anti-social behaviour in the city.
 
Deborah Byrne won the Home Offices’ Respect Award for Taking a Stand in recognition for tackling anti-social behaviour in the Parson Cross area, which she received at a special event held in Birmingham. 

Sheffield Homes and Police unite to make neighbourhoods safer - 23 April 2007

Sheffield Homes are joining forces with South Yorkshire Police on a special initiative aimed at raising awareness of crime prevention in the East of Sheffield.
 
The project will see Neighbourhood Wardens from Sheffield Homes and Police Community Support Officers from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, working together to promote 'No Cold Calling' zones with residents living in and around the Firs Hill estate.

Sheffield Homes celebrates third year in business - 20 April 2007

Sheffield Homes marks its third birthday this month with another year of landmark achievements, including achieving the prestigious Charter Mark quality standard.

Mystery Shoppers Wanted - 19 April 2007

Sheffield Homes is inviting wannabe detectives, super sleuths and budding actors to join a bank of mystery shoppers to evaluate services provided in its housing offices.

Community centre gets make over - 16 April 2007

The Lower Wincobank Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) Community Centre is re-opening its doors after receiving a make over with the help of Sheffield Homes. To mark the re-opening of the centre, which has been closed for two years, a special coffee morning is being held at 10am, Wednesday 18th April 2007. The centre which will be throwing open its doors for the morning to the whole community, is inviting local residents to drop in and put forward ideas about how to make best use of the newly re-furbished centre.

Sheffield United open community kickabout pitch - 10 April 2007

Sheffield Homes, Lovell and Sheffield United FC will be officially opening a new community kickabout pitch and play area in Sharrow on Thursday 12th April.
 
Local children living in Sharrow are invited to join Sheffield United’s Football in the Community Squad for a special football training session to mark the opening of the kickabout pitch.

Sheffield's own Cagney and Lacey win award from Home Office - 28 March 2007

Two Sheffield residents, dubbed Sheffield’s own Cagney and Lacey, have received an award from the Home Office for their work supporting local people suffering from anti-social behaviour.
 
The crime fighting duo, aka June MacFarlane and Ann Kemp, won the Home Offices’ Respect Award for Taking a Stand in recognition for the determination and bravery they showed in tackling anti-social behaviour in the Parson Cross area of Sheffield.

Offenders make amends to Sheffield Homes and Police - 26 March 2007

Teenage girls responsible for a spate of graffiti on Sheffield Homes property are taking part a new initiative to discourage other youths from following suit.  The group of girls, who were identified by their graffiti ‘tags’, agreed to spend a day   repainting the areas they defaced after South Yorkshire Police and Sheffield Homes agreed not to proceed with an arrest for criminal damage.
Stay Safe in Sheffield, Sheffield Homes children’s safety campaign which aims to prevent potential accidents and incidents by discouraging children from playing on or around areas where building work is being carried out, is being re-launched in time for spring.  
 
63 schools will be visited over the next few weeks which are those closest to where the Decent Homes work is going on and children between the ages of 4-11 given a fun introduction to the dangers of building and home improvement work with puzzles, competitions and videos.

Community Pull Together in 'Ground Force' Style Event - 14 March 2007

Residents living in and around Sky Edge now have a community garden to be proud of thanks to a special Ground Force style event.  Using money donated by Sheffield Homes Central Area Teams, Manor Castle Development Trust held a community event to help transform the Sky Edge Community Centre gardens into a community masterpiece. 

Campaign to dampen arson attacks in Gleadless - 09 March 2007 

Sheffield Homes in partnership with South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service are working together to tackle wheelie bin fires in the Gleadless Valley.  Arson attacks have increased there over recent months, with figures peaking in October and November last year. Since July 2006, there have been on average almost 40 incidents a month.

Sheffield Homes website wins top accessibility standard - 08 March 2007

Sheffield Homes has become one of only a handful of organisations across the UK to win a top accessibility award for its website.  The Royal National Institute for the Blind’s (RNIB) See it Right Standard tests extremely high standards of accessibility and usability for people with a visual impairment or other disability.
 
Sheffield Homes is one of only 40 organisations in the country to have the standard and is the first Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) to achieve it. 

Customers to act as inspectors for Decent Homes work - 06 March 2007

A new inspection system for Decent Homes work has been set up by Sheffield Homes.  The scheme means that customer representatives on the Sheffield Homes board will be offered the opportunity to inspect the work of the contractors themselves and report back to managers and other members of the Board on their findings.

Special Event for Sheffield Homes' Black and Minority Ethnic Tenants - 02 March 2007

Local Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) council tenants in Sheffield are working with Sheffield Homes to organise a special event to help other BME tenants make the most of the Decent Homes programme.
 
The Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Tenants Forum, which is being held on Thursday 22nd March, is an informal event that aims to provide Sheffield Homes’ BME tenants and residents with an opportunity to learn more about Decent Homes and have their say and be heard about issues affecting them, their family and the community.

Calling all Park Hill Residents Past and Present - 01 March 2007

Have you ever lived in Park Hill?  If so, Park Hill Tenants and Residents Association (Park TARA) would like to hear from you.
 
Park TARA is working in partnership with Sheffield Homes to mark the history of Park Hill and the lives of past and present residents living in the area.  As part of the project TARA members are creating a montage of photographs of life in Park Hill from when the estate was built in 1961 to the present day.  If you have any photographs or memories you would like to share please get in touch with Park TARA on 2738613.
