Community centre gets make over

The Lower Wincobank Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) Community Centre is re-opening its doors after receiving a make over with the help of Sheffield Homes. To mark the re-opening of the centre, which has been closed for two years, a special coffee morning is being held at 10am, Wednesday 18th April 2007. The centre which will be throwing open its doors for the morning to the whole community, is inviting local residents to drop in and put forward ideas about how to make best use of the newly re-furbished centre.

Mrs Ann Bentley, Assistant-Secretary of the Lower Wincobank Tenants and Residents Association says “The revamp of the community centre was badly needed, the decoration and furnishing were in a very poor state and it would really put people off using it.  Now with the help of Sheffield Homes the centre has been transformed, it’s lighter and brighter and a much better place for people to meet. Funding from Sheffield Homes has provided for re-decoration, new carpets, tables, blinds and a bookcase for our library.

The Lower Wincobank Tenants And Residents Association have worked very hard to get centre re-opened and it’s important that the local community are able to take advantage of its facilities. Everyone’s welcome to come along on Wednesday and we’re hoping that people will come up with imaginative ideas about how to use the spruced up centre. We are happy to consider any suggestion, whether people want to use it for a luncheon club, youth activities, after school club, bingo, senior citizens club, pie and peas supper, church group, mother and toddler group, film shows, computer training or gardeners club we are open to any ideas.”

Jackie Stockley, Community Engagement Officer, Sheffield Homes comments “The Lower Wincobank TARA was only formed last year, but has already made a big impact in the local community, starting regular estate walkabouts and ensuring that Sheffield Homes gets to hear about concerns of local residents. The new centre will not only provide them with a pleasant place to hold their meetings, but also provide a focus for the whole community."
