Sheffield United open kickabout pitch in Sharrow
Youngsters living in Sharrow had an Easter break with a difference this week when they were joined by Sheffield United’s Keith Gillespie and John Stead, and the Club’s Football in the Community Squad for a special football training session.
Local children and teenagers came out in droves to take part in the training session to mark the opening of a new community kickabout pitch and children’s play area, funded by Sheffield Homes and Decent Homes contractor Lovell.
Simon Young, Area Manager at Sheffield Homes said, “This has been a fantastic project to be involved in and we are delighted to be able to support the development of facilities for young people living in the area. We constantly aim to improve the lives of local people, not just their homes.”
The children’s playground was built on unused wasteland in the Washington Road area, close to the dramatically improved kickaround pitch on nearby Club Garden Road.
Lovell Business Development Manager Andy Guest adds: “It’s a real pleasure for Lovell to support the development of brilliant community facilities like this through our involvement in Sheffield Homes’ Decent Homes programme. I’m sure that both the kickabout pitch and play area will be a huge success.”
Local teenager Andy Senior said, “I think the new pitch is great and training with Sheff United was brilliant. Me and my mates will use the football pitch all the time after school and at weekends.”
