Community Pull Together in 'Ground Force' Style Event

Sky Edge Community Centre Team
Residents living in and around Sky Edge now have a community garden to be proud of thanks to a special Ground Force style event.

Using money donated by Sheffield Homes Central Area Teams, Manor Castle Development Trust held a community event to help transform the Sky Edge Community Centre gardens into a community masterpiece.  With support from volunteers from The University of Sheffield ‘Just Do It’ volunteer programme and members of the local pensioners club and after school club, the community centre gardens look brighter than ever.

Money for the project was donated from Sheffield Homes, Manor Castle Woodthorpe Area Panel, Sure Start, Manchester Methodists and the University of Sheffield.

Pam Smith, Community Development Officer, Manor Castle Development Trust, said “Everyone was amazed by the results at the end of the day.  People worked together to make sure that the whole community has access to a community garden that they can relax in and enjoy.  I can’t thank the volunteers and the organisations that donated money towards this project enough.”

The Community Centre is the hub of this community and is regularly used by the local After School Club, Sure Starts Mother and Baby Club, Teenage Fit Club and Pensions Club.
