Traders in Darnall sign up to Good Trader Agreement
Shopkeepers in Darnall have been working with Sheffield Homes to sign up to Sheffield Homes’ award winning Good Trader Agreements, to build a better community for local people.
The Good Trader Agreement aims to give traders and local communities the tools to stand firm in their fight against anti-social behaviour, and to encourage local traders to work together to make their shopping area a clean, safe and attractive place for local people to visit. Traders from across the city have signed up, including supermarkets, independent shops, doctors, dentists, libraries, food takeaways, and petrol stations.
Brigitt Cowen, Sheffield Homes Area Manager said: “The Good Trader Agreement is an excellent initiative that has had a positive sign up. It’s great to see that the Agreement is being rolled out across other areas of Sheffield as it encourages respect amongst residents, and keeping our environment clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. This agreement is making a positive contribution to this, as the shops are traditionally an important part of community life for local people.”
Gillian Clark, Proprietor of Gillian’s Barbers said: “Signing up to the Good Trader Agreement will have a really positive impact in this already popular shopping area. Our customers are pleased to see the efforts everyone is making to ensure they have pleasant community shopping on their door step.”
Good Trader Agreements were originally piloted in the north of the city. Following a huge take up and success rate, they have now been rolled out to other shopping areas and precincts in areas surrounding Arbourthorne, Heeley, Sharrow, Skye Edge and Firth Park.
The agreements cover a range of responsibilities including, keeping the area tidy, reporting graffiti, abandoned vehicles and other anti-social behaviour, respecting the environment by using a trade waste bin, ensuring shops are accessible to all, abiding by trading standards regulations such as not selling alcohol to minors and much more.
Upon signing up, traders are given a copy of the signed Agreement along with a colourful window sticker to display in the shop window.
