Residents Go “Green” with Sheffield Homes Environment Week

Sheffield Homes and its Decent Homes partners; Kier Sheffield, Lovell Partnerships, Keepmoat Plc, Wates Living Space and Henry Boot Construction have successfully completed an Environmental City Wide Week of Action aimed at improving the environment in areas where Decent Homes work is taking place.
From Monday 10th to Friday 14th March a series of environmentally themed activities took place across Sheffield involving local residents, schools and community groups. The initiative was set up to increase awareness of how the Decent Homes programme, a £669million scheme of improvements to Council homes managed by Sheffield Homes, is contributing to making Sheffield a greener city.

Throughout the week each Decent Homes partner undertook a range of activities including, supporting local wildlife by installing bat boxes, recycling household waste and improving public spaces by taking part in community litter picking, planting new shrubs and restoring green spaces.

John Lovibond, Director of Investment, Sheffield Homes said: “I am pleased to see the Decent Homes Environmental Week of Action has been hugely successful. The week has highlighted how well Sheffield Homes, its partners and local residents are working together on delivering environmental projects through the Decent Homes programme. The programme is not only improving the quality of our residents homes but is also helping to improve the entire neighbourhood and throughout the programme our contractors have been able to deliver some really worthwhile projects.”

Decent Homes will be continuing to benefit Council Housing across Sheffield until 2010 so it is hoped that the environment week can be repeated regularly to ensure that even more neighbourhoods can benefit.
