Successful Bid means a Better Service for Tenants
Sheffield Council tenants are set to benefit from the local authority winning the Block Cleaning Contract despite stiff private sector competition.
Sheffield City Council’s Facilities Management and Transport Services has been successful in its bid to win the contract to clean the tower blocks and flats managed by Sheffield Homes.
Their successful tender offered a substantial cash saving together with major service improvements including seven-day-a-week working.
The money saved will be re-invested in the Sheffield Homes service. Sheffield Homes are asking tenants about their cleaning and recycling priorities so they can take these into account when deciding where to spend the money saved.
The various contractors made their presentation to an evaluation panel which included tenants representatives, Sheffield Homes officers and trade union staff.
Jon Lovibond, Director of Housing Management at Sheffield Homes, said: “This contract attracted major bids from the private sector but I’m glad to say that Sheffield City Council’s in-house service was successful because it offered value for money, improved service and the opportunity to re-invest a substantial amount of money back into Sheffield Homes which will benefit our tenants in the long run.”
Gary Moore, Head of Facilities Management and Transport at the Council, said: “As part of our successful application for Chartermark status we redesigned our service to meet the needs of all our customers. I’m delighted that our approach to valuing what people require and continuous improvement has meant we will continue to provide this service for Sheffield Homes.”
