Sheffield Homes Helps Kids to Stay Safe

Stay Safe Logo
Stay Safe in Sheffield, the children’s safety campaign from Sheffield Homes has got bigger and better for 2006.

The massive Decent Homes programme of work being carried out by Sheffield Homes on Council homes has turned many housing estates into building sites. Last year, Sheffield Homes joined forces with contractors and local schools to launch the Stay Safe in Sheffield campaign, which aims to prevent potential accidents and incidents by discouraging children from playing on or around the sites. Forty two schools took part in the project and following its success, Sheffield Homes has re-launched it this year in time for the summer break.

Sheffield Homes is working with the five Decent Homes partners, Connaught Property Services Ltd, Keepmoat plc, Kier Sheffield LLP, Lovell Partnerships Ltd and Mears Group plc to target children between the ages of 4 -11 at 66 schools. These are the schools closest to areas where the Decent Homes work is going on. Sheffield Homes staff from the local investment teams, along with the building contractors, have been giving Stay Safe in Sheffield safety presentations at all these schools.

Jon Lovibond, Director of Investment comments;

“We are delighted to launch the Stay Safe in Sheffield Campaign for the second year running. It provides a great platform for us to work closely with the local schools and work directly with the children to make their communities a safer place to live and play.”

Part of the safety campaign is a competition for the children to write a poem about safety in their community. Each school taking part will have one winner from each of the 3 age groups (4-6), (7-8) and (9-11).  All winners will be invited to a presentation event where 3 citywide winners will be chosen and the school and child will both receive prizes.

 A formal presentation to all winners, across all schools is planned on the week commencing17th July. Last year’s competition winner was Megan Naylor from Bradfield Dungworth school. Her winning poster design is still being distributed around Sheffield, and is this year’s campaign logo.
