Local TARA retires after 20 years of service
People living in the Castledine area of Sheffield will be saying a sad farewell to Castledine Tenants and Residents Association (TARA) when TARA members Chris Bunting and Bob Truelove, step down after 20 years of service.
TARA Chair Bob, and Treasurer Chris, decided to step down from their roles in the TARA after feeling that the time had come to hand things over to younger volunteers. However, this now leaves the residents of Castledine without a TARA to represent their interests.
On leaving the TARA, Bob added, “We’d really like to see the TARA taken over by young volunteers to carry on the good work that we’ve achieved over the past 20 years. Being part of the TARA means that we have made a real difference to the local community, we’ve also helped local people have a voice about their homes and the area.”
Castledine TARA works with Sheffield Homes to provide support to over 80 homes in the area. Elizabeth Sayles, of Sheffield Homes’ Community Engagement Team added, “TARAs are really important in helping to bring the community closer together for the benefit of everyone living, working and visiting the area. We would urge other local residents to carry on the running of Castledine TARA and build on Chris and Bobs achievements over the years.”
In the 20 years Chris and Bob have been running Castledine TARA they have been involved in setting up a number of projects to help the community.
Projects in recent years include providing extra security measures on the estate such as lights, secure doors and locks with funding from the police; security shutters fitted to the Community Centre; and they even won a grant from the Lottery fund to buy new computers and run adult education classes.
The TARA has also worked with North Sheffield Regeneration and the Probation Services to carry out grounds maintenance and environmental work in the area.
Local residents interested in re-launching Castledine TARA can contact Jackie Stockley at Sheffield Homes on 0114 2930000.
