We're all going on a summer holiday

Residents from the Littledale area, East Sheffield packed their bags for their annual summer holiday last week.

The residents made the trip to Bournemouth have been going on holiday together for the last thirteen years, with the help of Littledale Tenants and Residents Association (TARA). The TARA collects residents’ money throughout the year and makes hotel bookings and other arrangements.

The trip this year was extra special, because it’s the final one that Mrs Gwen Dean, TARA Secretary has organised.  Mrs Dean along with Mrs Ida Smith, TARA Chair, who have spent a combined figure of nearly 50 years working for their local community are retiring this year from their respective roles in the TARA, along with other members of the committee. They are leaving behind them a remarkable list of achievements including:

  • working with agencies to upgrade the playground on Mather Road
  • having benches, waste bins and doggy toilets placed in the area
  • ensuring that extra lighting is available on Mather Road Pavilion and in other areas of the Littledale Estate
  • bringing environmental, maintenance and litter issues to Sheffield Homes attention on estate walkabouts
  • organising a host of activities and holidays
  • working with young people and the forestry agency to plant trees in the area
  • successfully lobbying for a fence to be erected along the cycle track, that runs along the back of homes on Greenwood Crescent
  • working closely with Sheffield Homes Anti-Social Behaviour Team, attending meetings with the Police, Fire Brigade and other agencies to keep the neighbourhood free of trouble.

TARAs work alongside Sheffield Homes and enable customers to get involved in shaping decisions about repairs, environmental works and help to organise activities for residents.

Mrs Gwen Dean, Secretary of Littledale TARA says  “I’m very proud of the achievements of the TARA and have greatly enjoyed the time I’ve spent working with and for the local community, it’s really been a pleasure. This is a great opportunity for people in the Littledale area to carry forward our work and make a real difference to the place where they live.”

Littledale TARA covers the Bowden Wood Estate, Halsall Estate, Colister Estate and Prince of Wales Road. Anyone interested in joining the TARA can come along to the AGM on Wednesday 6 June at the Pavilion, Mather Road. Alternatively they can call Jayne Clark or Jackie Stockley on 0114 2930000.
