Sheffield Homes achieves Investors in People
Sheffield Homes has just achieved its first Investors in People Award, thanks to huge backing from its own employees.
The award is given to organisations that show they actively `invest in their people' by encouraging and supporting their performance and development.
A cross section of Sheffield Homes' employees interviewed voluntarily, confidentially and anonymously were found to be "conscientious and committed" by the assessors.
Sheffield Homes, said the report, "clearly operates in a way that reflects the company values, which recognises and respects the needs of employees, including the need to be open, honest and transparent at all times."
Other good practices pinpointed by assessors included:
- A strong commitment to employee learning and development
- A strong commitment to inclusive systems which allow all to contribute to planning and ideas
- The company's mentoring systems
- Well integrated evaluation processes at individual and team level
- Excellent linking of employee development to service needs at all levels
The IiP Award stands for three years, during which time the company will be reassessed to ensure it is still meeting standards and improving even more.
"We're obviously delighted as it shows we are working towards our objective of becoming an employer of choice, where people want to work for us - both existing employees and new ones. The continuous improvement angle also means we are not complacent and must continue to improve" said Peter Hill, Employee Development Manager.
The IiP assessment also looks at how staff development is used to improve company performance overall.
"Achieving IiP means both staff and managers are committed to the company's organisational values and support our objectives," said Peter.
"It also reassures our employees about the type of company they work for, the effectiveness of their work, and tells us we are doing the right things to support them."
