Leading the way in positive recruitment
Sheffield Homes' commitment to recruiting disabled people is the best in the region - and that's official!
The organisation beat off scores of entries from the likes of South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and Yorkshire Water to win the 'large employer' category in the Remploy Interwork Leading the Way Awards 2005.
Sheffield Homes' award - which was presented by gold medal-winning paraplegic Olympic swimmer Sarah Bailey at the Royal Armouries in Leeds a few days ago - has been seen as a landmark achievement for the company because it was their first ever entry.
From helping disabled people fill out application forms to on the job training, Sheffield Homes dedication to equality is central to its ethos.
Close working relationships with both Remploy and Job Centre Plus are seen as major factors in its success.
Julia Matthews, Sheffield Homes' HR Director, said: "This prestigious award is brilliant news for Sheffield Homes and shows just how far we've come in such a short space of time.
"It recognises the company's positive recruitment initiatives with Remploy and Job Centre Plus for disabled people, access to advice for disabled people to complete application forms and CVs and the proactive approach of the Disabled Workers Forum. "
Sheffield Homes' employee, Joanne Leather of Area H at Crystal Peaks, was nominated in the business person category for her positive contribution to the success of the Disabled Workers Forum.
