Possession Order For Threatening Tenant
Sheffield City Council has obtained a possession order against a tenant who had verbally abused and threatened staff working on behalf of Sheffield Homes. The case was prepared by Sheffield Homes, the organisation that now manages Council properties and is helping to tackle anti social behaviour in Sheffield.
Marcus Madden, 35, of Leverton Gardens, Sheffield has been verbally abusive to staff on several occasions. In August 2001 he used vile language to housing officers on two separate occasions and in February 2002 he threatened two painters with a wooden stick.
In June 2005 he was verbally abusive to a joiner who was changing a lock in a vacant property. He removed a screwdriver from the female joiner’s tool belt and threatened to stab her with it. A week later he was verbally abusive to a cleaner working in a vacant flat in the building.
District Judge Mort, sitting in the Sheffield County Court, said that Mr Madden has put law abiding citizens who were going about their work in fear and that this constituted the worst type of behaviour. His Honour made a possession order against Mr Madden and ordered that he should give up his flat immediately. An application has been made to bailiffs who will set a date for his eviction.
Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Advisor for Community Safety, said: "This sort of behaviour is unacceptable and I am pleased that the court has supported our action in evicting this tenant. Staff are entitled to work in an environment free from intimidation and fear and we will always act protect those working on our behalf."
