Birley College Pupils Dig In To Help Tree Planting Renewal Scheme at Hackenthorpe
Sheffield Homes tenants will get a helping hand from Birley College pupils and the local Tenants’ and Residents’ Association when they plant 2 Rowan trees and a Medlar tree at Rainbow Avenue, Hackenthorpe on Tuesday 27 November at 11am.
This is the launch of a partnership between Sheffield Homes and Sheffield City Council’s Trees & Woodland’s department over a strategic tree renewal programme. It is being delivered through community forestry projects to target those areas where further tree planting will bring about positive enhancement of people’s surroundings and benefits to both the immediate and wider environment.
South East Housing Area Manager Shaun Nolan at Sheffield Homes says: “We see this as a good way of getting young people interested in the environment and taking part in the local community. We are very keen to work together with local communities to identify areas where we can plant new trees and improve the existing stock.”
“The trees chosen for this scheme will bring the maximum benefits to local people and the environment. This project will help towards making the city an even nicer place to live for today’s residents and future generations.”
Birley College pupils will also plant a further 4 trees at Hollinsend Avenue, Basegreen, on Friday 30 November as part of the programme.
