One World Community Event - 28 August 2007
One World Day, which has been organised by Stovin Utlley and Greenland Tenants and Residents Association (SUG TARA), aims to bring the local community together in a special fun packed event. The event is being held on Saturday 1st September at Darnall Neighbourhood Park on Greenland Estate in Darnall.
Dinosaur art should be a roaring success at Sheffield’s own Jurassic Park - 22 August 2007
Children in the Upperthorpe area of Sheffield will be getting all fired up about dinosaurs this Saturday as an innovative art and environmental project comes to a close. The Art in the Park project has been drawing in the crowds at Philadelphia Green Space on Fox Road for the past two weeks and will culminate in an event this Saturday, 25th August, from 2-5pm.
Tree planting scheme breathes new life into Wincobank - 21 August 2007
Sheffield Homes is helping to keep council estates across the city green with new tree planting schemes that enlist the help of local young people. The company has joined forces with Sheffield City Council’s Trees and Woodlands department in a new scheme that will bring about important environmental improvements.
All the fun of the fair comes to Winn Gardens - 21 August 2007
A children’s fun day takes place at Winn Gardens this Saturday to bring the community together following the devastating floods in June. Community group The Middlewood Winners has organised the event, with support from Winn Gardens Tenants and Residents Association. The Sheffield Homes North West Area Board is funding the event.
Sheffield Gnomes winners announced - 21 August 2007
The winners and runners up in Sheffield Homes’ summer garden competition ‘Sheffield Gnomes’ have been announced.
The competition, which was open to all Sheffield Homes customers, was split into 5 award categories, with 15 prizes up for grabs including 5 winners' prizes of £100 gift vouchers and a special award trophy, plus 10 runners up prizes.
Bands & Blooms Festival 7th / 8th September - 21 August 2007
Sheffield’s community gala ‘Bands & Blooms’ will be taking place again this year and will be bigger and better than ever. The event, which aims to bring communities in the North of Sheffield closer together, was a huge success last year with over 3,000 people visiting in just one day. Now thanks to a £5,000 grant from the Lottery, this years’ event will be extended to be a two-day spectacular.
Junior wardens meet furry friends at South Yorkshire Police - 15 August 2007
Youngsters in Burngreave who have joined the Burngreave Junior Wardens scheme this summer, paid a special visit to South Yorkshire Police’s dog training unit to learn more about the Police and how they train and use Police dogs.
The Junior Wardens Scheme, which was set up by Sheffield Homes’ Burngreave Community Wardens, aims to help local children work together and learn about safety, good citizenship and environmental projects.
Connecting with neighbourhoods in North West Sheffield - 13 August 2007
Neighbourhoods in North West Sheffield will come together at a new style community event this week to look at issues affecting local people. The neighbourhood conference will take place at Sheffield Wednesday Football Ground on Friday 17th August from 10am- 2.30pm.
Halfway mark reached in Sheffield’s Decent Homes Programme - 2 August 2007
Fifty per cent of council homes within Sheffield now reach the Decent Homes standard, that means they are warm, weatherproof and have modern facilities. And Arbourthorne tenants, Mr and Mrs Poulson, helped Sheffield Homes mark this major milestone in the city’s Decent Homes Programme, by showing off their newly improved home.
Growing interest in Gleadless Gardening Competition - 31st July 2007
Residents in Gleadless, will find out this week if their 'green fingered know how' has helped them scoop one of the prizes in this year's Gleadless Garden Competition.
34 budding horticulturists have entered the competition, which is organised by Sheffield Homes and Gleadless Valley Tenants and Residents Association (TARA).
From Sheffield tenant to Company Director - 27 July 2007
Four Sheffield Council tenants will soon take on the role of company director and head for the boardroom.
Sheffield Homes’ annual postal ballot for tenant Directors closes on 6th August and all Council tenants are being encouraged to vote on which tenants they want on the Board. The way tenants vote will affect the way their homes are run, so it is important that they have their say in the ballot.
Broomhall Allstars kick off in style - 25 July 2007
Local youths in the Broomhall area of Sharrow have come together through their love of football to play in a new youth football team, Broomhall All-stars FC.
The team was set up by Broomhall Forum and other partners including Sheffield Homes, South Yorkshire Police, Hallam University and Activity Sheffield to help meet the needs of young people in the area.

A new Tenants and Residents Associations (TARA) will be opening its doors for business this week at a special community event.
Shoreham Street TARA will be officially launched by Sheffield Homes at the Duchess Road Community Festival.
Sheffield Homes Handbank residents jump on board - 18 July 2007
Members of Handbank Social Club are celebrating after taking delivery of a new minibus, after nearly three years of fundraising work. Members of the club who all live at the Handbank Sheltered Housing Scheme in Gleadless Valley, managed by Sheffield Homes raised a total of £17,000 to buy the bus, which has wheel chair access and seats up to 17 people.
Children create their own builders to hammer home safety campaign - 17 July 2007
Over 80 children from across the city who entered a competition organised by Sheffield Homes to create their own builder character, similar to TV favourite ‘Bob the Builder’, will be attending a special awards ceremony on Thursday 19 July. The competition is part of a campaign to raise the awareness of dangers of playing near to building work, while Decent Homes work is being undertaken to improve around 40,000 homes.
Homes Alive with Dead Earnest - 17 July 2007
Interactive theatre company Dead Earnest will be using their unique approach to community theatre at Sheffield Homes’ next Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Tenants Forum.
Dead Earnest will be performing a special play at the BME Forum on July 31st, to highlight the different ways that Sheffield residents can deal with racism, harassment and disputes. However, this play is very different from traditional theatre …the audience is actively encouraged to stop the play and make changes!
Sheffield Wednesday Players Visit Winn Gardens - 16 July 2007
Players from Sheffield Wednesday visited the flood hit Winn Gardens estate on Friday 13th July at 4pm to meet some of the many young Wednesday fans on the estate and share their flood experiences. The players met youngsters from the estate who showed them the damage the estate has suffered. The players may also have had their own flood stories after the Hillsborough home of the football club was also badly hit.
Traders in Arbourthorne support work for a better community - 16 July 2007
Following a successful Week of Action in Arbourthorne, local traders are on board to help Sheffield Homes to build a better community for local people. The shopkeepers on Northern Avenue have been working with Sheffield Homes to sign up to Sheffield Homes’ award winning Good Trader Agreements.
Lovell named as one of UK’s most considerate construction companies - 13 July 2007
Affordable housing and regeneration specialist Lovell, which is working with Sheffield Homes on its major Decent Homes housing refurbishment programme, has been recognised as one of the UK’s most considerate construction companies. Lovell has won Highly Commended awards in the Public Housing category and the Housing Repairs and Maintenance category in the UK’s Most Considerate Constructors Awards.
Pupils say no to anti social behaviour - 13 July 2007
Children in Heeley have been saying STOP to anti-social behaviour by creating their own poster campaign to highlight the problem. Pupils from Lowfield Primary School have been working with Sheffield Homes’ Central Area Anti Social Behaviour Team to learn more about the impact of anti-social behaviour and the importance of being a good citizen.
Birthday girl Donna celebrates in revamped home - 11 July 2007
Sheffield based construction company and Decent Homes partner Henry Boot promised Donna Norton work would be completed to refurbished her home in time for a special occasion – her birthday. They kept their promise, which means Mrs Norton was able to celebrate her 35th birthday in a revamped home, complete with new bathroom, kitchen, door and windows.
Sheffield Homes urges customers to take out home contents insurance - 9 July 2007
Following the recent flooding Sheffield Homes is reminding all its customers that they can take advantage of a special household contents insurance scheme available only to council tenants. All Sheffield Homes tenants who are not in rent arrears are able to take advantage of the scheme, which doesn’t discriminate against any districts within Sheffield, including those that have been flooded.
Gnomes lend a helping hand to promote gardening competition - 9 July 2007
Visitors to Darnall Festival this weekend might have been surprised to see two special visitors from Gnomeland who were helping Sheffield Homes to promote its summer gardening competition called 'Sheffield Gnomes'. The two gnomes were on hand to tell customers all about the competition in a bid to get even more people to take part before the closing date on the 18th July.
