Bands & Blooms Festival
Sheffield’s community gala ‘Bands & Blooms’ will be taking place again this year and will be bigger and better than ever.
The event, which aims to bring communities in the North of Sheffield closer together, was a huge success last year with over 3,000 people visiting in just one day. Now thanks to a £5,000 grant from the Lottery, this years’ event will be extended to be a two-day spectacular.
This year’s activities will take place on Friday 7th September 5.30pm - 9pm and Saturday 8th September 11am - 6.30pm at Angram Bank Pavilion, High Green. Over the two days, local residents will be treated to a host of shows and attractions including fairground and children’s rides, performances from local brass and rock bands, sporting groups, flower and art displays, community workshops plus much more.
The event is organised by local residents through Tenants and Residents Associations (TARA’s) from Angram Bank, Mortomley and Lane End (Area North Sheffield Alliance). Sheffield Homes is also providing support and advice for the event.
Paul Voyse, Area Manager at Sheffield Homes said, “We are excited about being involved in Bands & Blooms again this year. The community in the North of Sheffield always come together for this event, so we are expecting this to be another popular event building on the success of last year.”
In the run up to the event, local school children were invited to design a series of posters for Bands & Blooms. The winners of the competition were from St Mary's Catholic Primary School and High Green Primary School.
Roy Saunders, Chairman of Area North Sheffield Alliance said, “We’ve already had some really positive feedback from local people about the plans for the weekend. We’ve got more shows and attractions than ever before and the opening night will be a brilliant start for this years Bands & Blooms. I don’t know how we’re going to beat it next year.”
