From Sheffield tenant to Company Director

Four Sheffield Council tenants will soon take on the role of company director and head for the boardroom.

Sheffield Homes’ annual postal ballot for tenant Directors closes on 6th August and all Council tenants are being encouraged to vote on which tenants they want on the Board. The way tenants vote will affect the way their homes are run, so it is important that they have their say in the ballot.

Four tenants seats are up for grabs this year in line with an annual rotation system designed to encourage newcomers to get involved.

Tenants form the largest group on the Board of Sheffield Homes - a deliberate move by Sheffield Homes and the Council to underpin their commitment to giving tenants an effective voice in decision making.

The full Board consists of seven tenant directors, five independents and three council nominees. It has overall responsibility for delivering housing services, including the investment programme to tenants in Sheffield Council homes. Company directors' posts are unpaid.

The tenants that have put themselves forward for election are Jose Derrick, Bryan Greenwood, Lily McCall, Usamah Rahmani, Joao Santos and Michael Shepherd. Each of them has explained why they think tenants should vote for them, and this information is included with the ballot papers which have been sent to all tenants.

The election is run independently of Sheffield Homes and the Council by an organisation called Electoral Reform Services. This ensures that the process is free from bias.
