Gnomes lend a helping hand to promote gardening competition
Visitors to Darnall Festival this weekend might have been surprised to see two special visitors from Gnomeland who were helping Sheffield Homes to promote its summer gardening competition called 'Sheffield Gnomes'.
The two gnomes were on hand to tell customers all about the competition in a bid to get even more people to take part before the closing date on the 18th July.
The competition is open to anyone living in one of the 45,000 council homes that Sheffield Homes manages and is designed to appeal to a wide range of customers, not just those with traditional front or back gardens.
There are five awards, which are sponsored by Decent Homes partners, including awards for community garden projects and communal gardens in Sheltered Accommodation. There is even a dedicated award for hanging baskets and containers so that customers living in flats or maisonettes can enter.
As gardening becomes increasingly fashionable amongst younger people, Sheffield Homes has also set up a special award for ‘Young Gardener of the Year’, open to under 16’s living in Council property.
There are 15 prizes up for grabs including 5 winners' prizes of £100 gift vouchers and a special award trophy, plus 10 runners up prizes.
Prizes will be awarded to the winner and two runners up for each award at a special event to be held in September.
Customers can pick up an entry form from their local Housing Office or First Point or by calling the Communications Team on 293 0000 or 205 3333. For more information visit www.sheffieldhomes.org.uk. Closing date for entries is 18th July 2007.
