Growing interest in Gleadless Gardening Competition
Residents in Gleadless, will find out this week if their 'green fingered know how' has helped them scoop one of the prizes in this year's Gleadless Garden Competition.
34 budding horticulturists have entered the competition, which is organised by Sheffield Homes and Gleadless Valley Tenants and Residents Association (TARA).
Lisa Lobue, Community Engagement Officer, Sheffield Homes says “The competition, now in its second year has gone from strength to strength. Not only is it a great way to encourage tenants and residents to be proud of their surrounding area and to build community spirit, activities like this enable us to meet people and get their views.”
There are two categories, best garden and best container garden, with a first prize of £50, second prize of £25 and third prize of £10 for each category. A special award ‘communal garden’ award will be made for a group of four gardens, in Gaunt Road, Gleadless, that have been exceptionally well looked after by four local residents.
Leonora Stavrianakos , Community Engagement Officer, Sheffield Homes, one of the main judges for the competition says “I was impressed and delighted with how much time and effort had been taken to create such wonderful gardens. It was a difficult decision to make as the standards were so high all entrants should be extremely proud of their achievements.”
“I would like to thank everyone who entered the competition and look forward to seeing all the aspiring ‘Alan Titchmarshes’ next year.”
Terry Wright, Chair of Gleadless Valley TARA, Dennis White, Committee Member, Gleadless Valley TARA, Leonora Stavrianakos, Sheffield Homes and Marie Bartrim, Sheffield Homes judged the awards.
