Sheffield Wednesday players visit Winn Gardens
Players from Sheffield Wednesday will be visiting the flood hit Winn Gardens estate on Friday 13th July at 4pm to meet some of the many young Wednesday fans on the estate and share their flood experiences.
The players will be meeting youngsters from the estate who will show them the damage the estate has suffered. The players may also have their own flood stories after the Hillsborough home of the football club was also badly hit.
Sheffield Homes, who manage the council owned properties on the estate, have now started phase two of the clean up on the estate, which involves using specialist equipment to remove the sludge left by floodwater from floors, walls and under floorboards of properties. Many of the homes need significant repair work and a detailed programme of repairs is underway for Winn Gardens and other flood hit council homes.
Some families from Winn Gardens were temporarily rehoused immediately after the flooding but all council tenants have now returned to their homes. Some of the properties on the estate are privately owned and owners have been working with their insurance companies to assess the damage.
Peter Morton, Chief Executive of Sheffield Homes said; “We are working as hard as we can to get the estate back to normal but it could take some time. In the meantime we wanted to arrange something special for people living there and since we know many are Sheffield Wednesday fans we thought this would be a great reward for their patience.
