Christmas Karaoke for Blackwell Court residents - 21 Dec 2007

Sheffield Homes, Decent Homes partner Wates helped to bring Christmas early to over 30 residents of sheltered housing scheme, Blackwell Court in the Park Area of Sheffield by organising a festive Karaoke party.

Pupils Raise a Racquet at Stocksbridge Badminton Tournament  - 12 Dec 2007

Sheffield Homes ensured senior school children in the North West of the city had their racquets at the ready for an organised Badminton Tournament held on Monday 10 December at Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.  Sheffield Homes funded the event with the aim of reducing anti-social behaviour in the area and improving fitness, co-ordination and encouraging team building.  It was organised in partnership with Sheffield City Council’s Activity Sheffield and Stocksbridge Junior Badminton Club.

Customers urged to ‘kiss goodbye’ to debts this Christmas - 12 Dec 2007

A new campaign which features a customer under a sprig of mistletoe, with the slogan ‘kiss your debts goodbye this christmas’ highlights the need for customers to keep up with rent payments during the traditional two rent free weeks which run from Monday 24th December and Monday 31st December and take advantage of the opportunity to clear or significantly reduce arrears.  It also urges any customers who are in financial difficulties to get in touch with Sheffield Homes to discuss a realistic payment plan.

Santa makes his 'First Point' of call to Crystal Peaks Area Housing Office - 10 Dec 2007

Sheffield Homes’ local First Point at Crystal Peaks Shopping Centre will become home to Santa this Christmas!
 
Boys and girls can visit Santa in his Grotto in the First Point reception area of Crystal Peaks Housing Office to tell him what they would like for Christmas and to receive an early Christmas present!  Sheffield City Libraries have kindly donated children’s books, which will be given to the children along with other Christmas gifts.

Great Christmas in store for flood hit tenant - 6 Dec 2007

Winn Gardens tenant Tracy Sanders is looking forward to a great Christmas now that her home is fully restored following the devastating summer floods. To celebrate representatives from Sheffield Homes and Kier presented Tracy with a hamper.

Neighbourhood Wardens Award Pupils for their Designs on Anti-Social-Behaviour! - 30 Nov 2007

Sheffield Homes’ Neighbourhood Wardens will be attending an awards ceremony on Thursday 6 December and presenting pupils from Birley Community Primary School with prizes after asking the children to design a poster to help stop various forms of anti-social behaviour.

Sheffield Homes Staff Go Walkabout - 28 Nov 2007

Sheffield residents are being asked to put their best foot forward to join Sheffield’s estate walkabouts and improve the look of their neighbourhood.
 
The walkabouts, which are run by Sheffield Homes, are designed to give local people a say about their estates.  The events offer participants the opportunity to meet estate professionals and discuss ideas and proposals for environmental and estate projects to help improve the area.

Housing Chief Becomes Warden for the Day - 28 Nov 2007

Sheffield Homes’ Chief Executive pulled on his work boots, picked up his notepad and wore his new staff uniform, as he became one of Sheffield Homes’ Neighbourhood Wardens for the day.
 
Peter Morton began his day at the Burngreave Housing Office where he meet his new team and collected his rota for his 8am-4pm shift.  His first task in his new role was to help the Burngreave Community and Neighbourhood Wardens on area patrols recording and reporting incidents of graffiti, fly-tipping, litter and vandalism. 

Birley College Pupils Dig In to Help Tree Planting Renewal Scheme at Hackenthorpe - 20 Nov 2007

Sheffield Homes tenants will get a helping hand from Birley College pupils and the local Tenants’ and  Residents’ Association when they plant 2 Rowan trees and a Medlar tree at Rainbow Avenue, Hackenthorpe on  Tuesday 27 November at 11am.  

Local Pupils help to create a "Tree" Mendous Difference at Gleadless Valley - 19 Nov 2007

Pupils from Bankwood and Valley Park Primary Schools, who entered a competition to paint a tree, are hoping to make a ‘tree’ mendous difference to their local environment. The pupils will be joining forces with Sheffield Homes contractor partner Henry Boot, representatives from Gleadless Valley Tenants and Residents Association, and Community Foresters to help plant young trees at Blackstock Road on 22 November.

Young People get a New Lease of L.I.F.E in South East Area - 15 Nov 2007

Sheffield Homes’ is helping to give young people in the south east area of the city a chance to develop essential life skills while learning how to prevent and tackle fire.  South East Area Board Chair Brian Wrigley will be presenting a cheque for £5,000 to the Firefighters based at Mosborough Fire Station on Friday 23 November.  The money will be used to help fund a group of local youngsters to take part in the South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Local Intervention Fire Education (LIFE) Project.

Neighbourhoody helps pupils consider impact of anti-social behaviour - 15 Nov 2007

Pupils from Westfield Sports College were one of the first in Sheffield to participate in interactive theatre performances to raise awareness of the negative impact of anti-social behaviour in Sheffield.
 
A special play, called Neighbourhoody, has been developed by Sheffield Homes and Dead Earnest with the help of Year 10 pupils from a local secondary school to highlight how anti-social behaviour can have a negative affect on neighbourhoods and people’s lives.

Sheffield Homes Tree Planting Scheme is branching out thanks to local primary school pupils - 6 Nov 2007

Sheffield Homes' tenants will be getting a helping hand from Wharncliffe Side Primary School pupils and the local Tenants’ and Residents’ Association when 2 Rowan trees are planted at Carlton Rise, Wharncliffe Side on Thursday 8 November at 11.30am.

‘Inspirational’ Paul shortlisted for UK Housing Award - 6 Nov 2007

Paul Key, an employee of Sheffield Homes, who died suddenly last year, has been shortlisted in the UK Housing Awards, in the ‘Most Inspirational Colleague’ category. The awards which are entered by hundreds or organisations across the country, are the UK’s most prestigious housing accolade.

Tess strikes up the bank on her 100th birthday - 5 Nov 2007

Tess Beeson celebrated her 100th birthday in style yesterday at Sheffield Homes’ John Trickett House Sheltered Housing Scheme, Chapeltown, with the help of her family, friends, residents and accompanied by the High Green Brass Band!  The staff and residents of John Trickett House provided a buffet spread and Sheffield Homes surprised Tess with a birthday cake. Tess also received a telegram from the Queen.

What's the Mystery behind Sheffields next BME Tenants Forum - 5 Nov 2007

Sheffield residents and part-time super sleuths Rene Seren’dat, Mick and Linda Daniels will be leading a special mystery-shopping stall at Sheffield Homes’ next Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Tenants Forum.  The BME Tenants Forum, which is being held on Monday 26th November, will focus on the different opportunities for local people to shape housing services in Sheffield, such as getting involved in mystery shopping.
