Noisy Neighbour Evicted

Sheffield City Council obtained a Possession Order at Sheffield County Court today (25 October) against Maria Williams of Papermill Road, S5 OEB. Should Miss Williams not move out within 14 days the Council and Sheffield Homes will take action to forceably remove her.

The Council and Sheffield Homes had received complaints for over two years from Miss Williams' neighbours about excessive noise emanating from her property. This consisted of excessively loud music, shouting, trouble from visitors to her property and frequent arguments between Miss Williams and her visitors at all times of the day and night.

Sheffield Homes' and the Council’s repeated attempts to solve the problem proved unsuccessful, despite letters, cautions, and discussions with her about her behaviour, she refused to stop causing a nuisance. Therefore in July the Council applied for and was granted a Suspended Possession Order.

In July Miss Williams admitted the allegations made relating to these matters and accepted the suspended order. The terms of the order prohibited Miss Williams from making excessive noise in any way that would cause annoyance to her neighbours. His Honour Judge Robinson made the order and explained to Miss Williams that this would be in place for one year.

Since that order was made, Miss Williams has caused further problems for her neighbours by making noise and being abusive. This culminated in Miss Williams assaulting one of her neighbours in the neighbour’s garden. Miss Williams’ boyfriend has also been abusive to her neighbours since the order was made.

Therefore the Council returned to court to ask for the Possession Order, and this was granted today (25 October).

Councillor Jackie Drayton, Cabinet Advisor for Community Safety said: "It is very disappointing that despite repeated warnings and opportunities for Miss Williams to change her behaviour, things have not improved. We do not evict people lightly but in this case there is clearly no other way to prevent her being a nuisance to her neighbours."
