Sheffield Homes bus tour is just the ticket for getting tenants on board
A bright yellow bus will tour Sheffield’s Hanover estate this Friday as part of a drive by Sheffield Homes to consult with black and minority ethnic (BME) tenants.
Members of staff and tenants who sit on the Sheffield Homes BME Planning Group will meet with local people to get their views on housing issues. There will be entertainment for old and young alike, including free face painting, sports activities and giveaways.
The bus will be located near the children’s play area on the Hanover estate from 10am until early evening on Friday 22nd September. It will welcome tenants and residents from the Lansdowne, Leverton and Hanover estates.
The bus tour aims to:
- Generate interest in the next BME Tenants’ Forum, which takes place on 22 November
- Promote how different community groups can get involved in housing services
- Gather opinions from BME tenants about housing issues to inform subject matter for the next BME conference
- Forge links between local people and the Sheffield Homes Community Engagement Team, which encourages and supports participation, and the BME Planning Group, which helps to shape housing services for BME tenants
Sheffield Homes staff will be meeting tenants, handing out freebies, and offering advice and information.
“This should be a fun event for everyone involved so we’re hoping to attract lots of interest from local people,” said Louise Thompson, Community Engagement Manager at Sheffield Homes.
“Whilst Sheffield has strong, active Tenants and Residents Associations, black and minority ethnic tenants are seriously underrepresented and so events like these help to redress the balance.”
