Local Children Become Stars of the Big Screen

Pupils from Ecclesfield Junior School saw themselves on the big screen after being invited to a special movie premier style showing of a DVD production, in which they were the stars.

The DVD, which was produced by Sheffield Homes, was shot in Ecclesfield Junior School to showcase the preventative anti-social behaviour work carried out in schools by Sheffield Homes’ Community Engagement Teams.  The final production will be used to train new staff at Sheffield Homes who will be working with school children to raise awareness of the negative impacts of anti-social behaviour and encourage good citizenship.

“We wanted to thank the children for their help in producing the DVD, so we decided to make them feel like film stars for the day by holding a one off cinema showing of the DVD.” said Liz Sayles, Community Engagement Manager at Sheffield Homes.

The film, which was also narrated by four youngsters from the school, was launched at an event held at the Odeon cinema in Sheffield City Centre.

Head Teacher of Ecclesfield Junior School, Mrs Barton, added “The children really enjoyed filming the DVD, so it’s a real treat for them to be invited to a special viewing of it.  It’s a lovely way for them to end the school term.”

The work carried out by Sheffield Homes in schools recently won national recognition at the UK Housing Awards in the category for ‘Excellence in Delivering Safer Neighbourhoods’ for its innovative approach to the prevention of anti-social behaviour in the city.
