Staff from Sheffield Homes have pulled out all the stops to create a welcoming communal garden area for local residents in Ecclesfield.

The Estate Services Team, which works in the North of the city, embarked on the environmental project around High Street flats in Ecclesfield.  The aim of the project was to rejuvenate the area and create a small haven for local people.

The work carried out included replacing all old roses and shrubs with new plants such as perennials, grasses and cordolines, the use of bark chippings to create a more eye-catching appearance and maintenance work on trees in the area.  The team also created a seating area so people can sit and enjoy the new surroundings.  Ecclesfield Tenants and Residents Association donated £500 towards the plants used in the project.

Dean Fearon, Housing Co-ordinator at Sheffield Homes, said “We have received some very positive comments from local residents, businesses and Ecclesfield Tenants and Residents Association, all of whom have said how much nicer and welcoming the area looks.  This is really encouraging and everyone that was involved in the project got a real sense of achievement from it.”

Sheffield Homes’ Estate Services Team in the North of the city also works in partnership with Sheffield City Council’s Liveability Team, which aims to improve the Southey and Owlerton area of Sheffield as a place to live and work.
