Free Fire Risk Assessments

Sheffield Homes are encouraging all its new and existing customers to take up the offer of a free fire safety risk assessment in their home.

The assessment, which is offered by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, includes fire fighters identifying potential fire risks in the home such as electrical hazards or heaters and fires, planning escape routes in the event of a fire and providing advice about caring for smoke alarms.

Janet Parry, Director of Housing Management, said, “The safety of all our customers is paramount to us, which is why we are working with the fire service to provide this additional service.  We would encourage everyone to get in touch with us to take advantage of this scheme to help protect their lives and their homes.”

Customers currently without smoke alarms will also receive them free of charge.  These will be fitted by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue at the time of the assessment, if required.

Bob Rowland, Head of Community Safety at South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue, said:  "It is important that as many people as possible are aware of fire risks in their home and benefit from our free fire safety checks.  We are pleased to be working with Sheffield Homes to increase the awareness and safety of their tenants.  Anyone in South Yorkshire can ask for fire safety advice or a free check in their own home by calling our hotline or logging on to www.syfire.gov.uk."

New customers to Sheffield Homes will be automatically offered this service when signing for their new home.  Existing customers interested in finding out more information or to book an appointment for a fire officer to visit their home should contact South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue on 0114 253 2314.
