It’s been a ‘Tree’-mendous Time for Tenants at Kinsey Road Sheltered Housing Scheme

Sheffield Homes tenants were keen to dig in and help Community Foresters plant nine trees at Kinsey Road Sheltered Housing Scheme at High Green on Monday 15 October. The tree planting is part of an ongoing commitment by Sheffield Homes to not only brighten up the area around the Schemes but to also manage the tree population responsibly.

The scheme is run in conjunction with Sheffield City Council’s Trees & Woodland’s Department Community Forestry Project.  The trees planted are a mixture of Rowan, Maple and Sweet Gum.

Jasper South, Assistant Director of Housing Management at Sheffield Homes says: “We are always looking for ways to further improve our residents quality of life at our Sheltered Housing Schemes and I am sure these trees will enrich the lives of the residents and visitors of Kinsey Road for many years to come, with the added benefit of helping the environment”.

To date Sheltered Housing staff have planted in the region of 25 trees at various sites over the last 12 months and a further 6-10 trees will be planted at Cambridge Court Sheltered Scheme at Heeley once Decent Homes work has been completed.

Also Streetforce have donated spring bulbs for all the Sheltered Housing Schemes and these will be planted by tenants with the help of Sheffield Homes Estate Officers.

Jez Platts, a Community Forester at Sheffield City Council says: “The Community Forestry Project aims to improve and enhance the environment of Sheffield for the benefit of both present and future Sheffield Homes tenants.

It is designed to involve local residents, schools and community groups through all the planning and planting stages.  The project will contribute towards creating a healthier, more attractive and economically viable area”.
