New girls footie team hopes to head to top of the league thanks to Wates Living Space

New football team, Throstles Girls Under 9 FC are hoping to head to the top of their league after receiving a brand new football strip from sponsors Wates Living Space.

The under 9 girls team from Darnall which plays in the Sheffield and Hallamshire Girls County League only started playing this season and needed a smart football strip for their matches.

Wates, who are helping to improve over 800 homes through the Decent Homes programme in the Darnall, Burngreave and Tinsley areas of Sheffield, presented the girls with their new shirts at their regular Monday night training session.

The work is part of the Decent Homes programme, which is managed by Sheffield Homes. The largest programme in the country; £669million of Government-funded improvements are being delivered such as fitting new bathrooms and kitchens, installing central heating and other work, to over 40,000 council homes.

As a thank you the girls presented Andy Fear, Wates and Bradley Everitt, Sheffield Homes with a shirt signed by the team.

Andy who will be hanging on to his shirt in case any of the girls become future football stars, comments “It’s a real pleasure for Wates to be able to support the Throstles through our involvement in Sheffield Homes’ Decent Homes programme. We wish them every success in the upcoming season.”

Simon Senior, Sheffield Homes Decent Homes Project Manager, adds “Wates have already forged strong links with the local community, not only through their work in improving customer homes, but also by fitting a new kitchen to a local community centre and providing storage facilities for a local youth club. This is a further example of the excellent support they are providing for the local community.”
