Sheffield Homes Tenants Make The Board
Sheffield Homes has recruited two new tenant board members to help the housing management organisation deliver the future that council tenants want.
Following a city wide election, tenants Michael Shepherd and Byran Greenwood received the most votes and will now be taking their places on Sheffield Homes’ Board of Directors. Existing tenant board members Lily McCall and Jose Derrick were both re-elected to the board.
Michael Shepherd, 32, is a council tenant living in the Lowedges area of Sheffield and has been a tenant for 14 years. Michael is currently a tenant representative for the Decent Homes work that is taking place in his neighbourhood and is a former board member of the Norfolk Park Tenants and Residents Association (TARA). Michael is married with four children. He will be using his experiences of bringing up a young family to help to deliver services to benefit families and young people living in Council properties.
Bryan Greenwood has been a council tenant for 35 years and has seen many changes in Sheffield’s housing over the years. He takes a keen interest in the work of Sheffield Homes and is Treasurer of the Badger Estate TARA. Bryan will be using his experience of neighbourhood issues to help the Board to steer Sheffield Homes in the direction tenants want to see.
The Board of Directors sets the direction of the company, and takes the lead role in defining the company’s identity, strategies and culture. It is working with tenants and their representatives to ensure that the Sheffield Tenant Participation Agreement is implemented.
The Board is made up of three constituencies - 7 tenants, 5 independents and 3 council nominees. Tenant Directors are elected by Sheffield City Council tenants. Independents are selected by the Nominations Panel, a Committee of the Board of Directors.
Peter Morton, Chief Executive of Sheffield Homes said; "We are very pleased to welcome Michael and Bryan onto the Board and welcome their years of experience as council tenants. Sheffield Homes is very keen for tenants to have a say in how their homes are managed so having tenants involved in key strategic decisions at board level is vital.
"It is also good to see younger people such as Michael becoming involved in Sheffield Homes as we make efforts to attract a wide range of people from different backgrounds and we are trying to encourage more of this for the future".
